Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our client located in Gainsborough. This role is temp to perm; you will be working full-time hours based on-site.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a leader of a small project team, you will primarily focus on designing robotic packaging systems. We are looking for a capable, creative, and self-motivated professional who can mentor and guide junior engineers to success in this field. You should expect to lead the design process from concept to production. You will need to lead design reviews with the larger team and often the customer ensuring that all the technical requirements of the project are met.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement the technical requirements and scope of work for each project.
  • Collaborate with project managers, project engineers, the production department, and customers in a professional and effective manner.
  • Adhere to project schedules and budgets while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Design robot cells, end-of-arm tooling, and Conveyors and Feeders within the cell.
  • Select and specify robots and other cell equipment.
  • Able to carry out sizing calculations for motors, gearboxes, shafts, belts etc.
  • Generate detailed and assembly drawings of custom equipment, including end-of-arm tools, robot frames, conveyors, and feed systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Support the production and installation team.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency with 3-D parametric modelling software (SolidWorks preferred but not essential) and 2-D AutoCAD.
  • Familiar with BS308 drafting standards; ability to read, create, and check drawings.
  • Familiar with the EU machinery directive.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanisms involving bearings, pneumatic systems, and electric motors, including experience with servos, sensors, materials, finishes, and structural design.
  • Familiarity with robotic cell design, including safety standards.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and machining processes used to make bespoke components.
  • Understanding of automated industrial processes.

Qualifications

You will need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles either gained through a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or through a recognised Apprenticeship program.

This role would suit someone looking to move up from a mechanical designer’s position and as such you should have at least 8 years’ combined experience in a mechanical design role preferably in a similar industry.
