Multi Skilled Engineer

OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Multi-Skilled Engineer for our client located in Norfolk. This is a permanent opportunity, working 39 hours Monday to Friday.

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, ideally you will have a strong understanding of process control, automated production equipment and a passion for maintaining high operational standards and driving continuous improvement.
Working in a manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for ensuring plant and packing line performance is optimised through effective maintenance, fault finding, and improvement activities, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental compliance.

This role will cover:

  • Carrying out preventative & reactive maintenance activities to keep plant down time to a minimum
  • Fault finding on mechanical, electrical and PLC systems.
  • Maximize line efficiencies and equipment uptime using OEE data and analysis.
  • Identify critical spare parts to support operational needs and code items to engineering stock.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures and carry out improvement works based on agreed corrective actions.
  • Lead small projects and continuous improvement works.
  • Use a range of risk assessment techniques to ensure safety of plant, equipment and activities.
  • Act as Permit Issuer for planned work and ensure that work is controlled in accordance with site Control of Work Standards.
  • Act as Electrical Authorised Persons (EAP) for point of work electrical isolations.
  • Perform the appropriate process engineering assessments for plant and equipment modifications.
  • Be responsible for line change overs aligned to the production plan
  • Develop, deliver and competence assess the Basic Engineering training for the operations team, maintenance group and external contractors.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience required

The ideal candidate will have experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment. You will have a sound working knowledge of packing machinery and continuous manufacturing processes, along with excellent technical and problem-solving skills.

Essential

  • NVQ level 3/HNC in Multi skilled Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
  • Experience of PLC controls, such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, Telemecanique, VSD, process control systems.
  • Experience with pneumatic & hydraulic systems, conveyor and belt drives, invertor drives, electrical sensors, switches and associated’ control gear, and safety circuits.

Desirable

  • HND, IEE Regulations 18th Edition, IOSH Managing Safely
  • SCADA/HMI, fault finding and process improvements.
  • Experience in welding, machining, Pumps, Robotic Palletisers, ink jet printers, check weighers, metal detectors
  • Experience of Permit to Work, EAP, Control of Work, Risk Assessment, HASAWA, PUWER,
  • LOLER, COSHH.
  • Project Management experience
  • BOAS (Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme) qualification (training provided if required)

Skills & Behaviours

  • Demonstrable application of Lean manufacturing tools including a working knowledge of SMED.
