Mechanical Engineer

OLG Recruitment are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to work for a major client located in Immingham. This is a contract position for approximately 36 weeks.

This work is part of a major compliance initiative to align with API RP 751 (Edition 5) and COMAH obligations, incorporating findings from recent internal audits and a gap analysis.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Technical Authority (TA) and will liaise closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review existing procedures related to the HFA Alkylation Unit (6 core documents).
  • Consolidate and rewrite procedures into a single compliant and user-friendly document.
  • Ensure alignment with API RP 751 (Edition 5), COMAH regulations, and internal audit findings.
  • Address gaps identified in the API 751 Gap Analysis and TÜV Rheinland review.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (engineers, technicians, operators) to ensure content reflects site-specific workflows and operability.
  • Implement a clear and directive style with appropriate human factors considerations.
  • Use internal templates and format suitable for SharePoint publication.
  • Annotate each gap as either “Closed” or “Flagged for Internal Review”.
  • Attend review checkpoints and incorporate feedback through Checker/Approver stages.
  • Role out to Operations and Engineering upon completion.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience writing or managing engineering procedures within a high-hazard COMAH-regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation Units or similar process systems.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of API RP 751 (Edition 5).
  • Familiarity with UK HSE expectations and site-specific permit-to-work and maintenance systems.
  • Ability to produce clear, compliant, and operable technical documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and document management best practices.

Desirable:

  • Mechanical Engineering background (degree or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience working with or within a refinery or petrochemical facility.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint-based document control systems.
