OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Lead Instrument Engineer to work for a major client based in Immingham. This is s permanent role working 40 hours per week.

 

Job Summary:

The Lead Instrument Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, integration, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems in complex engineering environments, particularly for clients within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Speciality Chemicals sectors.

This role may involve leading a small team of instrument engineers and designers ensuring compliance with international standards, and delivering high-performance instrumentation solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead instrumentation engineering scope across all project phases: conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, and construction.
  • Develop and review specifications, datasheets, and material requisitions.
  • Oversee integration of instrumentation systems with electrical, mechanical, and process disciplines.
  • Design and configure control and safety systems (e.g., DCS, ESD, F&G).
  • Manage procurement and installation of field instruments, valves, and transmitters.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, ISA, and offshore safety regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership during commissioning, start-up, and operations.
  • Review and approve vendor documents and technical drawings.
  • Conduct risk assessments and participate in HAZOP, LOPA and SIL reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster technical development within the team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Engineering (or HNC/HND with relevant design and plant operation experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in instrumentation engineering, preferably in offshore oil & gas projects.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, ESD, F&G, and offshore instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with international standards (IEC, ISA).
  • Experience in HAZOP, SIL, and risk assessment processes.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiar with planning and estimating processes.
  • Proficient in the use of instrumentation design tools and CAD software.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols and automation systems.
  • Ability to work in offshore environments and travel as required.
  • Previous experience of managing design teams.
  • Experience supporting high-hazard / COMAH facilities.
