We have an exciting opportunity for Head of Mechanical & Piping for a client based in Immingham. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Sourcing and executing work for the department
  • BID management, completion of tenders and building of cost estimates
  • Continuous monitoring of staff requirements
  • Attracting and retaining talent through effective recruitment, mentoring and training
  • Monitor the progress of jobs within the department, ensuring they deliver to the required quality, timescale and budget
  • Monitor progress and performance of all personnel within the department to assure the quality of work product and ensure continuity of design methods
  • Training and competencies of department personnel
  • Initiate, review, and approve routine performance appraisals
  • Demonstrate customer focus
  • Be a technical expert, setting design specifications on projects and driving technical assurance and safety by design
  • Ensure OLG Engineering procedures, specifications, standards, technical guidance and work instructions are followed
  • Review and approve timesheets, holidays and expenses for departmental personal
  • Working closely with other departments, including the fabrication and operations teams
  • Undertake inspection reports
  • Undertake Constructability reviews and review design risk registers to ensure safe efficient designs are delivered by OLG Engineering
  • Act as the client’s engineer and technical authority
  • Provides technical support to the Project group.
  • Attends internal review activities and inter-discipline check meetings.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of work winning
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline environment and an EPC environment
  • Ability to estimate design & engineering hours and fabrication & installation budgets
  • Proven track record of building & retaining dynamic engineering teams
  • Proficient in design using tools such as Autocad Plant 3D, creation of cats and specs, Navisworks Manage / Clash detection and chairing model reviews
  • Good working knowledge of AMSE codes B31.3 / 4, standards & specifications. BS EN 13480, PED / PER
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of post-graduate training
  • Chartered With IMechE with a design engineering bias

The Head of Department plans and directs all members of the team working on specific tasks. They will manage the development, implementation and evaluation of complex designs and monitor the progress and performance against the project deliverables and budgets. It is key to be instrumental in growing the team and winning work for the business either as an individual discipline or as part of a multi-discipline bid team. The role is client facing where the post holder will develop the business both internally and externally for the department.
